Title: Ignite the Night
Main Idea: intelligent street lighting system

In the Clouds (Emma Pollett & Saher Rashid)

Title: The future of transportation in developing cities
Main Idea: to effectively integrate multiple forms of road, road dividers, stacked roars technology to ensure efficient and fast travel for those in the city.

Third Place

STAJ (Stephen Zhuang, Thivya Prakash, Andrea Leung, James Yu)

Title: Carbon Neutral Bus Stop
Main Idea: Bus stop with water collection, sink , Heating, Solar panel, and Community wall

Title: Snow Removal Using Geothermal Energy
Main Idea: The project generates electricity using geothermal energy and cycles it through an internet of heating wires installed underneath roads and sidewalks to melt snow and ice.

Inter-perfection (Elaine Zhou, Karanveer Anand, Maha Ahmed, Rolex Austin)

Title: THE PERFECT INTERSECTION
Main Idea: design the perfect intersections and experience for all the people of Queensville

Third Place

Ambvenalyn (Ehvena Lam, Amber Chow, Evelyn Wong)

Title: Smart Freshcan
Main Idea: implementing trashcans using robots for separating different materials from each other and washing the plastic so that factories can recycle it rather than throw it away, using basic gadgets to improve the trash can such as odor eliminating air fresheners, indicators showing the trash levels, trash compressors and a durable shell.

National Engineering Month - Hackathon - Future City

Date: From March 5th to 28th, 2021

Location: Zoom

Students from grades 7 to 12 will present solutions to challenges in developing a modern city and present their ideas using a physical or virtual prototype in a short video. Students will form teams of 1 to 4 to research ideas, receive mentorship, and present ideas to city planners over two weeks. Students may prepare physical prototypes using crafting material or use free online collaborative design tools such as ThinkerCAD or AutoCAD to draw their 3D design.

There are two levels: Junior (Gr.7-9) and Senior (Gr.10-12)
The top three teams in each level will receive a $100 gift card

4:30 p.m - 5:30 p.m - Kickoff event
The Kickoff Event is jointly hosted by National Engineering Month and PEO York Chapter.
Our guest speaker is Steve Sutherland from Trellis Transit (http://trellistransit.com), who is an autonomous transportation system engineer. He will talk about a futuristic transportation system and how 3D computer aid design software is used in his work.
The registration is free and open to the public. Parents and those interested in future cities are welcome to join.
