PEO York Chapter presents the first-ever collaborative event with DevC Toronto to facilitate a series of SparkAR and 3D modeling workshops.

The first session will delve into the emergence of AR technologies and how they can be used in a variety of engineering industries. We will have a panel of industry experts and AR developers to explore the various ways AR is changing the world today.

The next 3 sessions will be progressive technical workshops starting with an intro to Facebook’s SparkAR platform, tutorials to develop a simple filter, 3D modeling to create assets, and finally, an AR project that can be used in an engineering context.

About the Speakers:

matthew xieMatthew Xie, P.Eng. B.a.Sc, MBA

Matthew graduated from U of T as a Mechanical Engineer and has an MBA in Business from York University.
He is the president of Lake Harbour Co. Ltd. It offers a wide range of multi-disciplinary engineering services, product design, automation systems, and product sourcing for its clients worldwide, accommodating both small and large projects.
Matthew is active in the Professional Engineers Ontario community. He earned the PEO Order of Honor in 2010 for his volunteering services. He takes extreme pride in the PEO York chapter and offers his energy to enhance its relevance and positive impact on our community.


brenda cardenasBrenda Cardenas - Marketing professional & Front-End Developer

Brenda started to work with Immersive media back in 2016, from 360 Video to virtual reality and Augmented Reality. She understood how important AR/VR would be for businesses in the future. She explored the world of social AR at the time being led by Snapchat and their platform Lens Studio.
In 2018 she became amongst the first developers to the Instagram Closed Beta testing for their Spark AR platform as well as Alpha tester for the windows version of the same.
Brenda is the founder of Digital Army, AR/VR studio that specializes in developing social AR filter experiences for brands, entertainers, and influencers. Her work has been used by millions of people around the world and highlighted in several mainstream publications. She is also the lead of Facebook Developer Circles Winnipeg.

paul brownPaul Brown - BA Graphic Designer & Post Graduate Coding for Animation

Paul currently works as a freelance 3D generalist, creating 3D models and animation for broadcast motion graphics and medical/scientific visualization. After learning to code, he started experimenting with mixed reality devices, and now created 3D models and sculpts in VR and creates augmented reality filters for Instagram and Facebook.
